Why rightwing opposes this project?
by Contractor on Jan 22, 2008 05:26 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

The religious Hindus are opposed to Sethu Project. Not because they think it affects the marine biology or because it is expensive but because they think that this Adams Bridge is nothing but a construction by Lord Rama (of Ramayana) used by Rama to invade Lanka According to mythology (as foretold in Ramayana), Rama constructed a bridge with the help of army of monkeys to invade Lanka. So, these experts suggest that this Adams bridge between India and Sri Lanka is indeed the same bridge that Rama constructed. Some of them, in an attempt to gleefully satisfy this theory have even suggested that Rama and his cohorts existed more than 1.7 million years ago to coincide with the time this formation happened.

Well said.

I wonder how many Muslims can prove that the Allah revealed Kuran to Mohammad.

How many can prove the miracles attributed to Jesus Christ.

When the muslims do not belive in idol worship, why they have to go around kaaba, or bow in its direction? Why they should get upset about a cartoon, when none of them have seen how the prophet looked?

Burden of proof lies where?? Majority populace seems believe (or have faith on) existance of Ram. Is the burden of proof on them or on the other set of folks (scientific/atheistic or whatever)?
I am just curious.I have no way of knowing the result of a complete scientific research on Ram . I do feel the burden is on the questioners (in the name of science/atheism/theism or whatever ism) rather than the believers.

Sadly, There is very little tolerance in the comment section. So, before bashing me, know that I am not a scientist, call me a fool - I can assure u I wont be offended.. This will help the basher to write some sensible bashing! Thanks

You misunderstood me.
The idea of putting those questions was to see whether others accept their own burden of proof!

What I feel is Hinduism is most abused, more so by many Hindus themselves. There are any number of idiosyncrasies in other religions too. Their intolerance, and violent reactions deter people from questioning any of their beliefs. So, the easy route people take is to bash Hinduism. This is what MF Hussain does with elan, so also Karuna, Sitaram(!) Yechury, etc.

If we do not have pride in our religion, then who can? By pride, I don't mean an intolerant attitude. I mean respect.

Listen contractor,

It does not matter who questions. It does matter that a lot of people believe. Therefore, we should not tamper with sentiments. Period. Not sure why debate this and keep hurting sentiments. In the same way, no one should question beliefs of muslims or christians. Its their beliefs. Period.

Therefore, I do not see the merit in having this discussion sethu samudram and infact no merit in the project itself. As the navy fellow said the large ships cannot ply anyways, which is what we wanted to via the sethu samudram.

Dear sami qureshi, though I do not believe in any god, I will explain the hindu (or Indian) way of worship to you. The ancient Sages of our Country believed that the Universe originated from a single primal principle called "SAT" and in whatever form you worhsip, the same ultimately reaches the said primal principle ("SAT"). The Indian gods are not jealous like the gods of Abrahamic religion (which is the fountain-head of intolerance of the followers of those religions).
