If the project is accomplished, India as a whole stands to gain as most shipping lines would transit through there like Suez canal and earn additional revenue. Even Kochi Port could get upgraded further and further dredging could ensure larger container vessels are accommodated. Overall it would a win win situation. Do no wish to comment on sentiments - Possibly Shri Hanuman and other monkeys must have laid the bridge as written in Ramayana. Cannot question that as evidences are available to that effect. But commercially it should be viable. Don't forget man can not longer use that bridge to cross over to Sri Lanka. So let's do the best next thing - pave way for shipping - will it pose any problem and if so why? If someone states that marine life may be affected, I can only say first stop polluting existing water bodies.
