Why not?
by Ramesh Kapoor on Jan 11, 2008 09:47 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Yes, Jyoti Basu should be honored. He had great aspirations to be the Prime Minister of India, but his association with WB politics left him only a regional figure. There is nothing wrong with giving him such a honor. My only concern is what Priya Ranjan Munshi Dasgupta will have to say now that the person comes from his state, and is a UPA supporter.

In that case we should give it to Veerapan first.

You hit the bulls eye!!!

Well I would be a little more forward thinking - why not share it between Veerapan and Phoolan Devi - so that the North South bias does not come into play and we can also avoid a hate mail session here. After all both of them shared everything in common. So why not this?

How can you give India's highest Civilian honor to a traitor who supported the chinese when they invaded India and said "It is a fight between Capitalism and Communism".

Do not reply back criticizing other candidates, but say why he should be given. In my books he should have been banished out of the country long back just for mentioning the statement as a anti-national and treason.

Jyothi Basu betrayed the nation in 1962. And he worship foregin leaders like Lennin,Mao and bucher Stalin. And carries foregin flag over his shoulder. What is Indian about him? Commies pro Chinesse and pro Soviet (60s,70s,80s era)They are not pro Indian. Fine exaple is N-deal.
