By bestowing just "Bharat Ratna" to Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, it'll equate his contributions to likes of Indra Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. I think, it'll be utterly unfair. Bestowing will be just first step in right direction.
Remember, it's was under Shri Vajpayee's leadership, India could think of becoming something in economic arena FIRST time in our history. He gave hope to billions of people who're seen like poor and weak thanks to communist policies of Nehru family followed over six decades.
First time in India's history, it was proven that coalition can provide economic and political stability adding much-needed concept to Indian democracy. Nehru family's contribution is just their whims to political process in this country.
We only have to think if "Bharat Ratna" is enough recognition to his contributions.

Sonia Gandhi deserves it more than Vajpayeeji. Why even raise the point, Mr. Advaniji, you cannot ask a beggar to give alms.

It was during his time, that mushrraf came to india and made a mock of our diplomacy. It was during his time that Kargil happened. It was during his prime-ministership, his beloved pramodji became a billionaire. It was during his time Unit Trust of India (UTI) saw one of the biggest financial sector scams and the net asset of the company has been reduced by Rs 25,000 crore, hitting the company's flagship saving scheme of US-64 in which legion of small savers, retired people, widows and pensioners had put their life-time earnings It was during his time that one of his minister was caught on tape accepting bribe (remember judeo tape). It was during his time that the CAG has exposed that the former NDA regime had spent an unauthorised sum of Rs. 62.3 crore on its %u2018India Shining%u2019 media blitz just on the eve of last year%u2019s general elections. There are numerous scams which cannot be mentioned here but I must say that this guys must get a Bharat Ratna. This guy when in opposition between 1991 and 1996, opposed PVN Rao and Manmohan Singh and said that the foreign company would come again and capture india. I remember lots of Bharat band in the name of swadeshi. This same guy when he came in power after PVN Rao, he followed the same economic policy and then he's all there to take credit for good work started by MMS. This guy (Atal) should definitely get a Bharat Ratna. He's been accused personally but cries foul when someone does it but prefers to keep mum if

just a quick note about musharraf's visit. his guard of honor was with all the soldiers taller than him, thus he was looked down upon. realize that fighting with Pakistan will not help India. We need a peaceful nation to strive economically.

I agree Kargil was a failure.
How he can be made responsible for personal acts of other individuals? That's not very smart. Corruption is amongst all of us, no matter who we're? Look at his personal record. Is there who can come close to him even a mile?
Let's not bring personal political affiliations while deciding who deserves top national award.
Moreover, Indra and Rajiv can get the award, I've no hesitation supporting Shri Vajpayee's name.
Moreover, if we start looking at failures, Nehru, Gandhi and Indra are top names. We have to look at total impact.

How can you say Kargil was a failure, you must see the government action after that incident, he gave order immediately to our army to take action against the intruders, in the history of Kasmir war first time Indian air force used, now kargil is a golden chapter in Indian history where our mighty army defeated the Islamic terrorist.

Good point! We can't attribute Kargil as Shri Vajpayee's failure. If we can, who we should attribute losing territories in Kashmir and North-east to?
When software industry was tottering during economic recession period in 1998 , he created a task force and stopped the impact and implemented the task force recommendation.
