Migrants need to learn the local language
by Dakshin on Jan 05, 2008 09:03 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

It must be made compulsory for locals to learn local languages of cities they migrate. I am a migrant from Andhra, but i can speak good Tamil as i live in Chennai. Hindi people should learn to respect the regional sentiments of people.

I think you should get out of this politician's game on language-paranoia. I don't understand why something should be made mandatory at all. I am a migrant from Andhra too and I have been in Chennai for the past 6 years. I couldn't pick-up too much Tamil, though I must admit I didn't give an honest attempt. But, if I am able to manage with bits-and-pieces of Tamil and whatever other languages I know, I don't think a Dakshin or a Karunanidhi should force me into doing something.
