The psychological gap b/w the sexes
by SS Kumar on Jan 06, 2008 09:15 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

While this Mumbai incident is an aberration, generally, one finds more of these cases of eve teasing & molestation in the north. The key reason is the intense segregation of boys and girls in schools and misplaced religious beliefs, that looks down upon a boy talking to a girl with intense suspicion. The net result is when these boys grow up they just do not know how to interact with girls and ladies and the baser style takes over, when there is an oppor- tunity to interact socially. The long term solu- tion is greater education and co-education in schools. Some of the illiterates behave as if there is no tomorrow when they interact with girls and ladies.

But the level of literacy in south is much higher compared to any other region. In Kerala, it is almost 100%. Raise the level of education and allow co-education in schools, you will see a gradual drop. I have lived sufficiently long enough in Delhi, Ranchi, Bombay, Hyderabad and
Bangalore to form this opinion based on a close analysis.

Kumar,

You mean no case of molestation is reported in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore ? Pl. give me a break. It's nothing to do with North, South, East, West. It's the common mindset across India.
