Is narco-test legal?
by Saravanan Subramanian on Jan 05, 2008 12:42 AM   Permalink

Only for the past couple of years I am seeing frequent usage of narco test for interrogation.
Is it legal? Does court accepts confession made by the accused in unconscious state?
Speaking in unconscious state need NOT necessarily be true. That may closely reflect a bit on their undisclosed wishes but not necessarily truth. Psychiatrist use this only to understand the pattern of thinking by their patients and not to get any truth revealed.
I guess, even media (along with Police) started believing that narco test is the "scientific way of interrogation" and produce accurate result.
Even people have slowly started believing that narco test is the efficient way of interrogation and if Police don't do that to an accused to bring out truth, then they are failing from their duties.
I guess, this non-sense from Police department through out India can be stopped only if Supreme Court condemns this act. Until then, this will continue.
