I am sure migrants from the North would have learnt Marathi had it been a good language. Look at Biharis in Kolkata, they learn Bengali. The reason is clear, Bengali is a language with a high culture. While Marathi is a language with a very Dehati sounds, and inferior culture. Moreover, Marathis wear black topi, geeky eye-glasses, black bund-gala coat, dhoti, and always carry an umbrella, even during summers. Thus their dress sense is also very Dehati. If Marathis had things their way, each male in India will look like Gopal Krishna Gokhle or Lokmanya Tilak! Thus it is an indisputable fact that Marathi culture is an inferior culture which very few outsiders can like.

Very unfortunate statement. I am not a marathi but I cannot disagree with u more. I hv lived in Calcutta (Kolkata) too. Kolkatan will not deal with u unless u spoke Bengali. That is why outsiders learn Bengali. Do not mock marathis because they are less assertive. I am unable to respect Raj but I hv a lot of respect for marathis who are hard working and generally honest. I am writing from my experience during my stay in Mumbai.

Zinda Puttar, you are talking about general marathies who are same as of any other reason. But look at their leader. Raj Thakarey wear suits, tie and boot too. Top on that he wear a smart looking glass. He may speak in 'julu' language but he talk less. He speaks maximum through through his violent eyes. A leader represent the culture of it's people. Compare him with leaders of UP & Bihar. Marathies are by any means a better race than Biharies and UP walas. Come on, accept the historical fact.

....and about Biharies in Kolkata is a different game alltogather. Biharies are interested in cooli, rikshaw pulling,taxi driving and labour jobs in jute millsj which are not wanted by snoby Bengalies. So they are safe. But their dirty living habit is cursed by each and every local fellow.
