008.012 Remember thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): "I am with you:
give firmness to the Believers: I will instill terror into the hearts of the Unbelievers:
smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them."

This verse and the verses before and after were revealed about the Battle of Badr, which occurred in Arabia in the early seventh century. A battle in which the pagans of Makkah traveled more than 200 miles to Madinah with an army of about 1000 to destroy Muslims. Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) and fellow Muslims had suffered severe persecutions and torture for 13 years in the city of Makkah. And now that they had fled Makkah and found a sanctuary in the city of Madinah, they were once again threatened. Muslim Army was only about 300 strong. God Almighty gave the order to Muslims to fight to defend their lives and faith. The enemy came to them with the intent to kill Muslims. It was a war to defend themselves and their Faith. It was a war imposed upon Muslims.

dude next time copy paste the entire verse including the context, but i guess u wouldn't do that, it's the only way ppl like u can spread minsinformation

and imagine if the war of mahabharatra wasn't explained in the right context, how would it sound to u Krisha inciting arjun to slay his step brothers, murdering karn when he was not in a position to retaliate...

there can be many such examples from the books of all faiths which placed out of context can create an impression of anger and disgust.

Dear Mohammed,

Great stuff. Good understanding about your religion and other faiths as well.

I salute you and you deserve appreciation for putting forward your explanation in a right way wthout offending others (which is the way Prophet MUHAMMED (PBUH) has taught).

Regards,

Razak

Dear SSSS

Even that too requires a great deal of understanding - from a holy Quran which has got 30 big chapters.

By the way, his understanding of Bhagwat Gita also deseves to be appreciated. I fully agree with him that if you take any verse(s) from any religious book - out of context - without taking into consideration of what is said before and after, you may get confused message.

That is what even our brother Muhammed also explains.

Regards,

Razak

[33:26] He also brought down their allies among the people of the scripture from their secure positions, and threw terror into their hearts. Some of them you killed, and some you took captive.

Those People of the Scripture who allied with the clans (despite having a treaty with you), have been taken out from their forts and strongholds, and panic has struck their hearts. Some of them were killed in the battle and others were taken prisoners of war. (The Jewish tribe, Bani Quraizah had violated the treaty, although another Jewish tribe, Bani Nadir of Khyber had also been among the confederates).
