Organic Farming & Traditional Watershed techniques
by DSK Rao on Feb 27, 2008 01:31 PM   Permalink

Fertilizers & Pesticides are costly inputs which force poor farmers into debt and also poison surface & ground water besides harming the ecological balance. Need of the hour is to encourage Ecologically, Economically & Socially viable Organic Farming using things like Manure, Vermicompost, Multiple Crops, Local Traditional Irrigational methods & watershed management techniques besides locally proved seeds.

Like carbon credits or Fertilizer subsidy, Government should give incentives to these Organic Farming farmers.

Ofcourse it rquires a political will and raising above the lobby of MNC GM Seed companies, Fertilizer Companies and Pesticide companies.
