Its serious and we should take it as a ve challenge to serve mother earth. If anybody have visited to countries like US, Canada, Europe, they must be amazed with the beauty and the atmosphere there. It is just coz, these countries have maintained it.India have plenty of resources, but we are directly-indirectly responsible for spoiling it for any other reason. If the rate continues, then one day, we wont be having anything left for our children in this country.Govt,non-govt oranizations, schools, colleges should be brought under common program to grow the trees.Govt should make it compulsory to have min.50,000 hectors of land in each state to be preserved as green zone.these trees will help in maintaing balance of oxygen, water & natural resources.. Can we be able to start this thought chain?

Countries like US and Canada are much more polluting that India and China. The per capita emission in India is about 15 times less than of US and Canada. While everyone drives a car and enjoys all comforts of life in US, about 1 lakh villages in India don't even have electricity and most Indians use public transport for commutation. US and Canada should commit to reduce the emission levels before they could ask India and China to commit. How many people in US would commit to use public transport to save the environment? India cannot stop its development for a better environment.

Its true that US has more percapita emission of CO2 than India, but its an indistralized country and that emission is for the whole of USA. Whereas in case of India most of it is concentrated in big cities and metros. With the rapid urbanization and development in India the condition can become far worse very quickly. Also India has much more concentration of other pollutants including high dust and toxic gas content.

are we spitlickers of the US? if US is not controlling its emission must we inferiority-complex ridden third world wannabes follow their example with weird comparisons, when it is clear that each of our big cities is choking with black pollution? before affecting US our own citizens will die of pollution. they already are.so what is this idiotic comparison with US going to achive?

Stephen .. India cannot stop its development but it can try to minimize as much as possible, the harm to our environment by practicing green habits, educating the young ones and inculcating the importance of environment care.
After all developing should not mean deteriorating. Then theres no point of all this (unplanned) high-tech urbanization/industrialization.
