MMS is the scape goat for our problems. This is simplicistic and ignores the harsh political landscape. No harm in being proud of our democrazy but what choice does MMS have? Even the coalition is ever ready to pull the rug from under his feet. He is jumping from many crises to others, all domestically created.
We have no national interests. We agree on nothing. The energy situation is one such. We are one of the most dependent countries on the Middle East oil-70%. Oil is becoming a political tool. Never rule out the situation when we may not be able to get it at any price.
Many talk about alternatives. They are many decades away. Solar will be the best bet for us, but where is the cutting edge technology? There are many credible reports that oil production has hit its peak and the recoveries are getting more expensive. The days of cheap oil are over. The reserve figures in Saudi is unrelaiable. There are wheels within wheels to maintain that there are great reserves to put off any major alternate energy initiatives.
Many countries including China, France are going for increased nuclear power. We are the outcaste and not even in the NSG group to get fuel. Australia prospers supplying uranium to China. We are at others' mercy in all types of fuel needs.
Unless we have a consensus on these vital national interests, our ego can be deflated in no time.
