Arrogant North Indians
by Pulsar on Feb 17, 2008 03:22 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

It is my personal observation that North Indians, especially from UP or Bihar, think that they constitute the whole of India. There is no doubt that UP has been the cultural heart of India and Hinduism from a long time. But that should not be the justification for arrogance. Many Bhayyas and behans from North India think that if a person does not know Hindi, he or she is not fit to remain in India. As a South Indian from AP, I agree that Hindi is a beautiful language and is the mother tongue of 40% of Indians (yes, only 40%, not the majority). But that does not mean Hindi should be forced on everyone. Some of the North Indian Hindi teachers have a very very arrogant attitude. When I first took up Hindi as a kid, I found it very difficult to understand it. These Hindi teachers used to narrate stories in Hindi. When I asked them to translate it into English because I found it difficult to understand, they refused to do that because they said - Hindi is "our" language and we should be able to understand it. But how exactly are we supposed to understand Hindi, if people refuse to translate the words into a language that we knew? Even though I am not a Hindi-hater, I sometimes feel that Hindi-hating Tamilians are the best answer to these arrogant North Indians.

what factionism dude? anyway, if u r from AP, do u know Telugu? Why don't u reply in Telugu, then we will know whether you really speak Telugu or whether you just cut and paste sentences.

PS: I don't support any arrogant behavior, whether from NIs or from SIs.

I did not type rubbish. I was merely giving an example of the arrogance of North Indians. One of the causes of such problems is the arrogant attitude of North Indians.

abe bajaj pulsar, whats the point.. don't use personal experience in deducing that all NI are alike ... Moreover nobody is imposing Hindi on anybody.. Hindi moreorless has been sidelined and is not in anybody agenda.. As far as the situation goes , whatever is being done by Raj and his cronies is unlawful.. It happens only in India.. People of Raj kind have misplace there brain and using their ass to dirty the environment.. Arrognace also comes from confidence buddy.. Cheers to your pulsar..

Hindi is not being imposed because of agitations that occurred in the 1960s. Not because our Northie bhayyas have a generous heart towards non-Hindi speakers.

Sure, all NIs may not be like that but anyway, I mentioned that it was my personal observation from people that I interacted with. And I never encouraged Raj Thackeray's use of violence, but you are forgetting that this article is about a North Indian shooting a Marathi guy. By the way, do you know that Biharis are treated like scum in Delhi railway stations? I haven't seen such bad treatment given to Biharis in Hyderabad or Chennai or Mumbai. Do you know that North Indian males treat women from the North east as easy targets and degrade them? And your stuff about arrogance coming from confidence is vague.

I don't accept with your opinion on "Hindi-hating Tamilians", actually there is no such thing, you might have got the opinion from the silly politicians who make spread such hatred. These politicians ensure that their own kids learn Hindi and English, but project it as if they will die for tamil. They create hurdles to the local people from learning these languages and prevent them from qualifying to work in other places. Each language has its beauty and each state has its own culture. Put together this makes India a beautiful tree where birds from various places live in harmony.

Hi,
I agree with you, rightly said. North indians should understand one thing, "Hindi is popular language in India, Not a National Language" . Remember, indian constitution declared 15 or so languages as National language. To protect those is the responsibility of each indian.
I am a kanndiga , i do support MNS in this regard.

So be rational and do some thinking..

He is not preaching any violance, Maharastrians were hiding there feelings til this time, When Raj took the issue and people supported him.
I think, "we should taught the definations of words Rational, thinking for those who move from one part of the country to other."
Try to be "like Roman when you are in Rome." Then definetly we can't imagine this kind of situations.
Simple solution right !!

Hi,
thanks for your message. I am a north indian and feel bad that some other north indians act like this way. I love India and its diversity. I have friends from all over india and at times we have communication problems (though its the other type...we have a lot of fun together :) ). Whats happening in maharastra is bad, but problems happen everywhere. We need to be tolerant and stay united in bringing peace and love to everyone.

Jai Bharat
