Your suggestion is nice but please consider my point. Indian software companies are like small contractors doing manipulation jobs to feed third grade IT industry of the world.
Though name is big IT, but none of these companies engaged in developing global software like Mathematica or origin or VNL. Then what do they do, its like call centers job. Some low profile wastage jobs.
Therefore companies have no choice but to sqeeze the workers, they dont required creativity, they need labors. Truely most IT professionals are like railway coolies with T-shirt and jeans, salary is not everything.
If a quality man is not allowed to create anything, bio-construction of our brain is such that it moves towards collapse. Those IT people who are itself fourth graded they wont have any problem, or if they are given a creative job which is very limited.
Therefore, the industry is a sick industry, unless they are engaged in developing commercial worldwide usable package, the environment wont change, solving software problem in swiss automatic train, or company network building package wont ever change the situation.
I wonder why IT companies change direction, once they start developing new packages for their own business, profit will be orders high, and company will be forced to let labors relax so that they become more creative.
Dont you people agree that the problem should be seen like this way?

let me get this straight. Do you even know what India is contributing in IT space or are you one of those who think IT is just BPO and Call center and indians are cheap labor?
FYI, India is massive in BPO and Call center industry but it is equally big in contributing to global software development, be in the form of R&D or OEM for another vendor.
The point is not that IT Industry is a sick industry but it is the people who have desires and are greedy for a quick buck. Why do you think that IT professionals keep jumping from one job to another in a matter of months. It is the quick jump and extra money which drives that.
Add to it the social status and the lavish life they want to lead, which they would have heard of people in the US. This brings in loans from banks (ever thought how a 25 year old relatively fresh grad. can even think of buying a house worth 30 - 40Lacs)?
It is this IT industry which has given the young generation the money to spend and pick the economy but it is the greed and the desire to lead a lavish lifestyle that makes these young guns to bite more than they can chew.
Then when reality hits ground, there is all kinds of stress to keep up with the lifestyle they have created. It does nothing but to add more pressure.
We should look at the basics and teach people in school and college about greed and desire control than point finger at an industry which has helped so many people realize their fairytale.
