1) My ancestors came from Dhar in MP to North Maharashtra some 150 years before. We still go to Dhar on occasions like after Marriage or to cut male child's first hairs. Now we consider ourselves as Maharashtrians. My mother tongue is Marathi. Also look at some Maharashtrians like Sindia (Shinde) of Gwalior, Gaekwad (Gaikwad) of Baroda, Maratha kings of of Thanjavur etc. They all mixed with local culture just like me. But that's not the case with many of North Indians. I have never seen a persons from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar speaking in Marathi. Some blame also goes for the Maharashtrians that they are not assertive of their culture. May be it is their assimilative nature. But their good nature is considered as weakness. Thanks to Raj for making us realise the danger. If you go to Chennai, taximan will refuse to take you if you do not talk in Tamil. We have seen PM from Karnatake who could not speak Hindi. But even people in villages in Maharashtra can speak Hindi. 2) Another point is of economics. Economy and culture not always go hand in hand. In fact most of times it goes in opposite. I agree North Indians are ready to work for longer hours and at lesser salary. But that doesn't mean Maharashtrians are lazy. It's not that we don't want to work but we don't want to work for 12 hours a day for salary of 1000 Rs a month. I work in s/w field. but will marathi work on 50 to 60 low skilled jobs in mumbai ,,, dont take example of s/w field ,, there are heavy margins ,,, but cn a marathi work a low skill job which usually marathi thinks tht they are against there so called image ,, raj thackrey is a disgrace ,,
