Have you ever heard of Shivaji, Sambhaji, Bajirao Peshwa and the Maratha rule till Attock (which is now in Pakistan), Sunil Gawaskar, Dilip Vengsakar, Sachin Tendulkar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, Sadhana Ghanekar aka Sadhana Sargam, Nana Patekar....the list is endless. Also, Maharashtra has always been on the forefront of right wing political ideology in India. People like Sawarkar and Hegdewar (founder of RSS, withour which there would have been no BJP) come from Maharashtra. Had it not been for the uprising under Shivaji during medivial times, your 'lal popat' would have been 'katela popat'.
Lagta hai koi marathi aadmi ne teri achche se maari hai. Is liye itna fadfada raha hai.

Marathi folks have also been in the forefront of Hindustani classical music (after the great muslim masters) - VN Bhatkhande, SN Ratanjankar, DV Paluskar, Balkrishnabua, Babu rao bakhle, Bhimsen Joshi are few of the names that spring to mind

marathis are most tolerant people why they have let come whole indian to their home, they dnot mind marrying their daughter to any one,,,how they liberal, but bombay is become the most uglist city in the world ,, most of railway plateform, bathroom, public land and owned by socalled poeple from up and bihar,,, criminal, corruption is aggravated by their prevelence, whole mafia is run by up bihar gangs,, bysocalled politician,, telgi ji atule ji , are great example of bombay,,,
