Biharis etc in Kolkata
by Rambothu S on Feb 14, 2008 05:51 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

I was looking at the census data and some other internet sources on population composition in Indian cities. There are more Biharis in Kolkata than in any other metropolitan city in India including Mumbai (Kolkata has 60 percent non-Bengalis, mostly Biharis). But Kolkata people do not have any party like Siv Sena. And I don't know is there such hate there as well?

There is certainly such hatred in Kolkata too... not to generalize anything but from my personal experience I have seen that Bengali's are one of the most regionalism minded ppl, for them Bengal and being Bengali is above everything else. Remember how they put up rallies and even dare to boycott Indian team every time Dada is kept out of the team.

That is bad. I was just trying ratinalize the absence of parties like Siv Sena. I strongly feel though the ganguly episode was not regionalistic, it was more to do with hurt feelings by a foreigner. I have been closely watching, his exclusion now did not make such an impact, though on form he is better now than he was then
