Howmuchever we debate on the country being one and all country men are equal and blah blah blah, the fact remains that the "issues" are true. Which means that marathis will always blame outsiders for choking the city... which is true.
Mumbai is a different city and needs to have a visa system. Why dont the "outsiders" go to the US? Why do they come to Mumbai? Special problems need special solutions. A visa system will not only keep a check on unnecessary crowding, but also on terror activities.
That apart, we need to shift the whole media industry outside mumbai. Some huge barren land, on which free infrastructure is provided as well as free land parcels for constructing studios. That way the media will be out...and wannabe actors need not come to mumbai, they can crowd the "new place".

I am not Marathi. I am merely suggesting a solution. I am an Indian first. But issues remain issues. Marathis are justified in demanding that the normal jobs like railways, factories, etc go to them first. How can the locals just sit and watch people from other states coming and lapping up their share of jobs? Obviously industries like banking, software, acting (and all artistic), investment banking, etc jobs have to go on merit only. There can be no compromise there. But railways, government jobs, factory jobs should go to locals first.

'outsiders' come to mumbai and don't go to US because mumbai is in india & the US is not. cities that are commercial hubs attract 'outsiders' all over the world, be it new york or london. such cities, by virtue of their importance to their respective countries, unfortunately become automatic targets for terrorists. this has nothing to do with 'outsiders' coming in. also, perhaps less than 2% of of these 'outsiders' come to mumbai to try their luck in the media world; most come here to merely earn 2 square meals a day. you are right about the strain being put on the city's infrastructure, but that is a problem that our bureaucrats needs to address with honesty & a will to implement change - not with their usual inefficiency & corruption. i am sure that with a few people with integrity at the helm, it can be taken care of as well.
