In cities, when police goes for an encounter theyn wear bullet-proof jackets. Many a policemen have been saved from bullets by these jackets. I have no idea whether army wear these when they are patrolling the LOC/Border? If not, then why aren't these provided. Many lives can be saved. Can rediff/anybody with army background answer this question?

Hi rajib, I can tell u from my experience in the Army Bullet proof jacket dont help the Army much unlike the police besause:
1) 99% of the soldiers die due to other explosives than bullets. 2) A bullet prof jacket hinders in the functioning of the Army person as unlike police they have to petrol without vehicles on borders and the weight decreses their movement chances. 3)The econimical viability of the bullet proof jacket is not accepted by the ministry of the defence( THE POLITICIANS) since Military does not belog to any party unlike the police which belogs to the state government while Defence Supreme commander is the President. there are many other numerous reason why this is not possible hope this will help you.
