In the article,Mr.Shashi Tharoor has cited examples which are very silly. Can any one say me how the watching of Bollywood movies and TV soaps by war-ridden people of Syria and Afganistan is going to contribute our Economic growth in any significant manner?
If IITs are on par with MIT and let us assume that our IITs are better than any Technical Institutions of other countries....then why an IITian B.Tech is opting for higher degree(MS/PhD) abroad mostly? Why a PhD from an average US University(compared to MIT,such as Univ.of Maryland,Univ.of California) is always given preference for Faculty positions in IITs itself?

He's not talking about economic growth or hard nos., he's talking about soft power. For an example, French people don't like the growing influence of Hollywood in their country. What this means is that US soft power is increasing in France.

There is a false sense of pride in India. It is true Indian are seen in global places more than before. But some of the appointment of Indian CEOs to commerical enterprises are pure business gimmick When pepsi got into problem in India, suddenly the Indian -Indra Nuyi became its CEO When Vodafone was in crisis and when they want Indian market - they put a indian sarin there Citi bank CEO appointment is no different We can be really proud of India, only a dalit becomes the PM-because that is the only way to expiate the sins of centuries and tell to the world that India has truly arrived
