Make Open book exam compoulsory
by Sudhindra Rayaprol on Feb 03, 2008 11:27 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

The whole discussion on this issue has gone wayward. It is not the question of north or south India, but it is the question of future of India. In our country, everyone is affected or influenced by the other, so let us sit down and think seriously about why does situations occur. Why do people cheat in exams, getting jobs etc.? Is it inherent to our culture or some serious lapses are there? Instead of the current examination pattern, where one has to mug up things just to put it on examination sheet in 2 or 3 hours, let us think ahead and go for open book system of examination, where the test will be for the intellect of the student and not his talent of mugging or cheating. This will ensure that the paper setters and the evaluators are both educated and they know the subject better. In my opinion it will ensure better quality education and will reduce this open display of shamelessness in our society. When students and their parents demands cheating as their right..it shows how rotten our system has become. We must appreciate the government of Bihar efforts of conducting a fair examination. But given the state of affairs, they need to do more than this. To ensure that we get good lawyers and judges, it is high time to clean the education system of this age old examination method.

on a serious note, why even have open book exams? if he attends college, then issue "college attended" certificate. if he wants to get job, then he should prove himself capable of that. we need to try this.

Being sarcastic will not help anyone. If you really wish things to improve you have to pragmatic. Negative thinking helps no one.

surely you do not have much exposure. Open book system is one of the best and btw it is the toughest too. It is not commit to memory and vomit on the paper the way our Indian education system works and produces millions of junks
