The Congress always cashed on sympathy votes.... either of bereaved daughter/mother (Indira) or orphaned son (Rajiv) or widowed wife. Sonia qualified.
She was kept on a high pedestal in India... in Italy she would have been a commoner... here she was Queen and her kids ... Royalty.
The Gandhi family was in politics for five generations... with an MP's pay and no business other than politics, the family should have actually been living in penury.... But no... politics in India in rich business. The temptation was too much for Sonia to decline the offer to join politics. Obviously theres a lot more than what meets the eye.
By the way, do Sonia and Rahul file IT claims? I'm sure Chidambaram must be filing it for them-NIL returns.

When you can make your foriegn jaunts as often as you like and be treated like royalty, why would you prefer life as a commoner? So Sonia takes Yuvaraj to China for Olympics and we Indians type our comments on Rediff.
