Now the truth starts coming out..
by ABC on Aug 06, 2008 04:39 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Now the leeches are coming out the woodwork. There is no way the world is giving us a fantasy deal like the Congress and the Government would like us to believe - there must obviously be something in it for them. Even in today's HINDU there is a front page article on how the NSG agreement is likely to be the NPT by another name. This government has severely compromised the strategic sovereignity of this country and for what? 3% of our energy needs 20 years from now? This government has completely failed to read between the lines in the agreement especially the NSG part of it. The 2 aims of this agreement from the US point of view are to help their energy companies make billions from India and to get India to be part of the discriminatory NPT regime. We are really fools to believe that people are giving us a great agreement for free - remember, there ain't no such thing as a free lunch

Actually I have read the 123 agreement and the IAEA safeguards agreement - the NSG agreement is still confidential to my knowledge. I think the government has only seen the good aspects of the deal, which are admittedly many, but have not seen the holes in the deal like indirectly taking away our right to test, indirectly making us sign NPT and so on, which is why I said the Govt has failed to read between the lines.

Friend, Please see the contentious issues in the Hyde act
1. No freedom to handle spent fuel.
2. No guarantee for alternate fuel supply
3. India is not a technology developer but a recepient.
4. India to side with US in NPT
5. India to participate with US National Security Administration for NPT.
6. Reporting of US President on the efforts of India in containing IRAN.
7. India denied space related dual use technology
8. India denied strategic planning of nuclear programms.
9. Stopped India in the production of fissile materials.
10.No joint move for universal nuclear disarmament.
11.All future agreeents are to be in consistent with this act.
Hyde act is the enabling act for the 123 agreement.

Leaders declare that all these are wrong but failed to arrange a debate in Parliament.
LEFT and BJP failed in the parliament to expose the omissions

Is it not surrendering our freedom and sovereignty?

I agree entirely - I have infact seen the Hyde Act as well. It is the most scary of the lot and the govt says it does not apply to India as it is a US law. Fact is that 123 cannot take place withoout the Hyde act. All 11 points uve made are absolutely right. The most scary one for me is the issue of Iran which basically means our foreign policy has to be decided in Washington not New Delhi. Very sad indeed. There are many good aspects to the deal, but there are many bad aspects as well. We dont really need the deal desperately anyway, so why are we going ahead with it when it has so many loopholes?
