Vote bank
by Manya Neel on Aug 06, 2008 06:16 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

I have always been unable to understand one thing: Congress is blamed for appeasing minorities for votes. Now if I were a politician, I would appease majority for votes, as I am sure of getting more votes from them. How appeasing minorities can bring more votes? Have always been unable to understand this maths.

coz majority votes are always fractured, whereas minorities vote almost unanimously...so though number-wise the majority is bigger, they are a potentially low vote-bank compared to minorities..

if there are 100 voters, and in them if 15% are muslims, u pretty well know that they wont for BJP. so appease them so that they will vote for congress. and in rest of 85 think if 25 wont vote. leaving with 60. of the 60 if say atleast 15 vote for congress then they will get 30% votes. and in remaining 45 there are atleast 3 parties looking for share which includes BJP. just think BJP is able to get 25 out of 45. that leaves BJP 2nd to congress which gets 30%. now can u understand the appeasement???????????
