A few weeks ago, Tamil Nadu’s CM had put on hold the Hogenakal Scheme stating that it would be taken up only after the formation of the government in Karnataka. Even after the formation of the government he is not in a hurry to press the issue. Now that the UPA Government has won the trust vote he has given a ‘go ahead’ for the continuation of the project without consulting Yeddyurappa. The Centre has all of a sudden come up with a view that Lord Rama had destroyed the bridge himself and that no religious sanctity needs be attached to the issue. The speed with which the issue was taken up right after the trust vote speaks volumes about the clout wielded by Karunanidhi at the Centre even though he is heading a minority government. If every minority party takes advantage of the contribution made by them to win the trust vote, who will take care of States ruled by other parties? And where is democracy?

S S, Please be uptodate on news. KK ordered the implementation of Hogennekkal scheme, the next day after Karnataka elections and not after UPA winning the trust vote. The project is scheduled to be completed in 2011, as originally planned.
The centre has not suddenly come up with the idea that Lord Rama had destroyed the bridge. Some Achariyaar made this comment, long before. The same question was then asked to Cho that this achariyaar had said that it had been mentioned in Ramayana that Rama destroyed the bridge himself. Cho's simple reply was 'based on the book I read, there is no such point'. So, both the people who support and oppose dont have a clue about what they are talking about. There can be beliefs and sentiments. But, forcing those beliefs and sentiments on others and making it a fact is rubbish.
The only point of discussion should be, whether this project is going to improve the Indian economy or not.

Stupid! Sentiments holds the biggest priority in this so called secular country! Economy and convenience is the last. Why should only Hindu's sentiments be devalued for the sake of economy? If there are people who believe that Ram didnt destroy the Sethu, then there is every reason for them to ask not to proceed with this and hurt their sentiments.

Yea, nothing new. But it is only against Hindus he show his guts. He asked "in which engg college did Lord Ram study". Can he show the same guts to ask the same question about Allah or Jesus? Forget Jesus or Allah, can he show the guts to speak against a Padre or Mullah? Their communities will pulverize him! Just because Hindus are peace loving shouldnt be taken as a reason to hit them on every occassion.
