Democracy is India is modelled after Western Democracy. India needs to have it's own version of democracy. Involving an electorate of close to half a billion is not feasible. We should have better tiering in the selection process, which will also ensure that people elect folks they directly know. The model that i suggest is let us give more power to the local governing bodies.People anyway do elect their panchayat members. And they represent the political affiliations and aspirations of the people who elect them. The election process that we undergo is a massive waste of time and energy, mobilizing all these resources to run this mega event every 5 years - sometimes twice an year is not something good for a nation which cannot find enough money and manpower to build basic infrastructure it badly lacks. I would recommend giving more power to Rajya Sabha and make it compulsory for RajyaSabha members to be PHD holders. We should demand change in our political system , the current system we have in place is purely imitation of things happening in the west with total disregard to their applicability in Indian context.Hope election commission shows some brains.

Mr George, please remember that our politicians are very ingenious. They will devise ways to get Phd. Do you know that Her Highness Jayalaitha and the Unscrrupulous M Karunanidhi all are Phd holders. He will get more for his son daughter and even TR Baalu. If no university give them they will sstart their own university. Ask lallu he can get even form MIT or Harvard of USA. these are simple for these mastre survivors.

Just saw a news how the Rs 2/- rice given in Tamilnadu is ending up for sale in Kerala. The rice is sold by people for a higher price. See how the public money is wasted by this seasond politician. Is any one raising this question in the appropriate place or not?
