I agree with Dr Ananthamurthy that people who have migrated to Karnataka should voluntarily learn Kannada. I am a migrant myself, but would never shy away from this obligation under the hollow pretext that anyone can settle anywhere in a democracy.
One acquaintance of mine - a Tamilian by origin and now settled in Bangalore - said this about Kannadigas: If you walk one step (by trying to learn Kannada), they will walk 10 steps to be friendly with you. I am willing to believe him.

There is a difference between Should and Must. First learn that then comment.
A person shying away from national language or global language is born to suffer. Its just an act of showing prudence for nothing.
