Mr/Ms USA, its a well known truth amongst linguists and historians that language is the key to a culture. The decline of a culture begins with the decline of its language.. Haven't you ever wondered why, when you are reading up about a city/state or a country, one of the titles will be "Language and Culture"? There is more to a language than meets the ear! ;)

I dint get your point. Isn't the medium of conversation here English? My intention is to get the message across, loud and clear. Question on what I am saying sunny boy, and I would be happy to debate. Am as much open to other views as I am open to expressing mine! Are you?

My Point here is people have freedom to speak, he felt so and mentioned this point. I am a north indian who loves to speak in Kannada, I love kannada songs too.
But it was my wish to learn it, had someone forced me I would have just said WTF and none of ur business.
India itself is great whether it s Delhi,Karnataka or anything.
We have national langauge for it, I hope everyone knows What national lnaguage means.

Not to waste our times on this debate of a National Language, there is none mentioned in the constitution of India. Do have a look on it, if you think I am cooking up facts.. :)
Regarding the other point, it was not at all evident from your previous post what you meant, and how it was relevant to my previous post.
Anyways, I perfectly agree that no one can "force" you to learn the local language, but the locals would be happy if you learn their local language. And in turn this would make your stay pleasant, for yourself and the others. URA did not say force the local language upon them. He used the word "voluntarily".

there is none mentioned in the constitution of India. [A] Dude I think u just didnt do ur schooling right? Do U have doubt about it... I think even a 2nd Std student can google it out. anyhow Fun apart.
I agree one can definately put an attempt to learn not only kannada but the number of lnaguage he/she wish to learn. I would rather put ur sentence in a right way " People should learn regional language so that who doesnt know our National language Hindi or english " can do conversation with them too.
To justify on my first comment, I found ur comments baseless". so wrote my first comment.
Never the less I really dont feel that anyone in a domacratic country has a right to force anything to anyone. Be it a poet or anyone, People should realize what they should do and if they feel they should implement. Unless and until your words does harm anyone, any lnaguage is great and we have our national lanugage so that people who migrate from Bengal to Delhi or Hyd to Tamil can use them. Rest all language to learn will strngthen ur skills.
