Before Neerja Chowdhury goes overboard and starts reading too much meaning in to the results she must accept that bypolls are bypolls and rarely ever reflect the reality of general elections ! What however needs to be noted is that Mayawati is a key factor in today's politics and will remain so for the next general elections . Mayawati must be credited for getting her arthematic right . SC Brahmin = winning . In taking the Brahim vote she pulled the rug from under both the Congress and the BJP. She also recognizes that Brahmins moved to her because of the manner in which the OBCs under Mulayum harrassed them over nearly a decade. But currently outside UP she has merely the ablity to damage the Congress ! She could take away the SC/ST vote away from the Congress and help BJP ! What is surprising is that BSP's normal ally should have been the Congress. Possibly Rahul Gandhi , in his hurry to establish himself in UP , callously rubbed he the wrong way.
