Executions
by Netra Maithun on Apr 15, 2008 12:19 PM   Permalink | Hide replies

Per Se, I am against executions. However, innocents are not executed. Let's not forget, these executions takes place in accordence to Laws. Whether we agree or not to such provisions is another issue. But, The citizens of China would be aware about the punishments as per their laws. Hence, before they break the law, they will be aware of the perils. So let's not demonise China. We too have our laws. Including capital punishments. It's our perogative to decide - crime and punishment - in India. So is China. It's remains to be seen if execution actually has any effects on crime levels.

The only difference is, in India a person on death row is constantly kept alive based on the political calculations of the Delhi Sarkar, while in China the punishment is actioned very quickly with no long haul petitions, review-petitions, mercy petitions, etc.

Also while treating criminals in this manner is OK, why should the intellectuals and democratic activists be persecuted? It shows that the Chinese Communist rulers have something to hide. These communist leaders have acquired wealth which they manage to stash without being affected by the very laws they use against their citizens.

In China, Communists are more than equal in comparison to their common citizens.

you are absolutely right. We in India know that if we board a train without a proper ticket, we are committing a crime and are liable to be punished. If after knowing this also I travel without ticket and am caught, then I am solely responsible for the punishment that will be awrded to me as and when i am caught.
