Your comments on astronomical dating are incorrect

Dear Dr. Singh

My name is Pushkar Bhatnagar.

I am the person, who has found the actual dates of the lifetime of Lord Ram, based on the astronomical data available in Valmiki's Ramayana by using the Planetarium software. All my findings are published as a book titled "dating the Era of Lord Ram" (May 2004) by Rupa & Co. Delhi.

I consider it my duty to correct certain comments made by you in your article, which in my opinion convey a wrong impression to the readers.

You have written that "In the last few years, some highly motivated computer-literate group of people have designed a software called 'Planetarium Gold Software'....." and with the help of this software dates have been arrived at. This comment conveys a meaning as if someone in India has developed this software with a specific pre-determined motive to prove something about Lord Ram or Indian history.

In this context, I may clarify that the software, which I used for finding the dates is not produced by me or anyone in India. It is a specialised software available in USA, from where I bought it. It is capable of generating on your computer screen the view of sky including planets and stars, as would be seen from any location on earth, for any time and date between 99999 BC and 99999 AD. Hence, no one can manipulate the software to arrive at a pre-determined conclusion and so the objectivity of findings are ensured.

Due to space constraint I shall continue in the next message.

Pushkar
