Dear Mr. George:

Ramayana teaches nothing. Yes. Ramayana does not teach anyone anything in the same didactical way other religions do since Ramayana is an epic which illustrates the lifestyle of men and women who follow or do not follow the path of Dharma. Dharma is an attitude of mind and nothing else. Sanatana Dharma believes that the actions of all spring from attitudes they have. If the attitude is right, then the actions are right and vice versa. This is illustrated vide a beautiful love story with all the ingredients that will hold an audience spellbound for hours on end. This is what Ramayana is. Ramayana is the story of Ram simply put. You learn what you can from the story. Sanatana Dharma has three basic texts: The Upanishads, The Bhagavad Gita, and The Brahma Sutra. All mythological writings or other literary works will adopt and adapt and will remain with the parameters of these three basic texts. Since there is no noteworthy translation of the Sanskrit text into English, I am not in a position to recommend a good one for your reading pleasure.

well, Ramayan is an epic. Its not a simple story which teaches a moral. Rather we should consider it a complex series of stories interlinked involving all the emotions and variables of humanity like jealousy, power, strength, love, greed etc etc. Its not about saying whats good or whats bad. rather its about to show how the system is! you need not get enlightened after reading it! if you feel it its great....

And about Hinduism. Its not a religion i say. Hinduism is a way of life. Hindus are the most tolerant beings on earth. they respect every form of life. Hinduism is not about following something which someone said as in case of christianity or islam.

praveen george, your name shows that u have got the background of christianity -can you explain
inequality,inequity,social disparities,anomalies
in humanrace without hinduism core belief of
immortal soul,rebirths,karma,ultimate salvation
which explains all concept of life including the departure of soul and its whereabout before taking re-birth or attaining final salvation.
no other religion except hinduism can explain
scientically give answer to all concepts and logic in life.why one should recite gayatri mandra 108 times-what is the significance of 108
-distance between earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of sun.similarly we have 27 stars
(27 steps) to moon from earth and each star has
four pathas = 4 x 27=108.similarly distance between moon and earth is 108 times the diameter
of earth. i saw in one good website and verified
with NASA website to show the correctness of our ancient rishes and yogis.

Praveen "George"....who are you to decide a head and tail of any religion....

Hinduism as a concept is more than 8 million years old ......is that not sufficient enough reason for you to stop following Christainity which is just 2000 years old ?

If you look at it superficially it is a three line story. But you look into the details it explains how a civilized person should behave. That is what Arya stood for in those times meaning Civilized. It depicts how a responsible person should discharge his duties and showed how Rama did the same to perfection.

4)THEN HALF MAN-HALF ANIMAL-NARASIMHA
5)fIRST HUAN BEING ON EARTH- bRAHMIN- vAMANA
6)tHEN lORAD SRIRAM- ULTIMATE KING ,HUSBAND, BROTHER, SON ALL
7) OTHER TWO RAMS BHARGAVA RAM, PARASURAM
8)A MAN WITH UNIDENTIFIED PERSONALITY-LORD KRISHNA

Good question - i wud answer it briefly !

Rama's selfless service attitude, going to the forest to keep his father's word, lakshman following as an ideal brother,
hanuman - an ideal follower ...

then rama's role as an ideal king, even in warfare he respected todays' modern protocols of chivalry ...

finally the sacrifice of sita to leave the palace to protect the dignity of the throne even when she was pregnant, so that the throne remained above preceived blemish

Thanks

Excellent .
To me these qualities more seem christly, so i would say Rama was more or less the precedessor of christ, the selfless human being out there to serve the common folks. Now what is the problem in people living in peace and harmony instead of spreading hatred against each other. Did Rama told to spread hatred against others. Why are Indians so pathetically selfish in everything else other than in their own family, why is not any one following lord Ram in India. I would say lord ramas followers could easily replace the need of mother theresa and all the missionaries. Why are there no missionaries for lord ram who is out there to serve the needy people. Why can't followers of lord ram unite to help humanity as a whole to progress instead of establishing political parties and cast oriented societies that spew venom against fellow human beings?.Why does every indian need bribery, why is every autorikshaw driver a big cheat, why is people in india trying to cheat every one other than members of their family? To me the problems is not with religion it is with people, whether hindu muslim or christian if you are good your lord is good,if you bad it makes no sens even if your lord is the best lord .. How many people agree?

well praveen, ram is not to be justified by the followers, neither jesus (that selfless saint who went on the cross for no sin of his) ...

so as long as u can remember the followeres of ram/jesus what their original teacher told them, u are serving God ... bye
