I think India and China will be good friends and the Tibet problem will be solved when the Communist party in China is no longer in power. The communists are a cause of the hostility and make China seem hostile and demonic when the Chinese people are not that way.

there is no sign that democracy is coming any time soon to china ... you better not hold your breath for that ... LOL
china is just protecting its territorial integrity ... tibetians are part of china ... even dalai lama is not asking for freedom from china .... he is just asking for more autonomy.
but indians, true to their nature, will jump to interfere in others' affairs ... and will hate when others interfere in theirs' ...
we should stay out of tibet issue ... if people want to, they can, it's their choise, but the govt. should not support any separatist movement anywhere in the world.

Nobody is holding anybody's breath. It is a question of looking at the future based on current possibilities. Tibetans are not part of China and the more the Chinese play games, the more Dalai Lama's position will get diluted and Tibetans will stop at nothing short of independence. Even the mighty soviet state could not prevent various republics from getting independence eventually. China like them is strong in some ways but very weak in others. We cannot stay out of the Tibet issue as you want us to because Tibet impacts our security, our water, our territorial integrity in the north and northeast. Do not allow confusion about the Kashmir and Tibet issues to cloud your judgement.

You have no idea ... Russia crumbled under failing economy ... China doesn't have any such near term problem. Their economy, perhaps you are not aware, is the fatsest growing among world's large economies.
Reagan led the defense expense to a point where soviets couldn't match them and their economy collapsed
