I went to IIT and I have seen backward class students doing really well and competing at par with the rest of us and most of them came from very poor backgrounds.
In todays scenario anybody who has a reasonable brain and can afford some expensive coaching can make it to IIT. At least the reservation policy will make sure some deserving students who are otherwise not able to compete will have a chance at showing their prowess!

Thanks for your enlightening. Let them make reservation 100%. By your logic anyone can study and do well.

They can have more reservation in Natonal Institute of Technology and less in IIT's. I have been to the USA recently. Earlier I lived there for 10 yrs. There is a strong feeling that the recent IITians are not doing as well as their predecessors in US Universities. So let the IIT's take the best and why not have more reservations in NIT, which are also good institutes. I also belong to the OBC class. When I was in India , I was for reservation etc, but after living in USA for 10 yrs, I have become a meritocracy bakt in top institutions.
