Just having diffrences of opinion with Gandhi cannot make everyone the greatest.
It is the sustaining power, self belief, convincing power, eternal durabilty of gandhian policies all make GANDHI greatest indian of the 20 th century.

@ alert,

Gandhi as an individual had pure strength of will... that is the only admirable quality...

What are Gandhian policies??? What he persisted were some of the eternal values laid down ages ago...

Probably had he not interfered with politics, he might well have been the greatest Indian of the 20th century...

Without Gandhi we would have not got the freedom so easily with the least blood shed..
He is greatest because being in politics still being so good gained the acceptabilty of the majority of indians. He achieved everything with people's support. donr forget tht part.

Yes, he was instrumental in the struggle for independence... I agree that any struggle otherwise would have shed more blood; but again, the patriotism and the levels of unity also would have been much more greater...

And Gandhi's meddling hand in the administration would have been avoided...

While independence was still in the nascent stage, Gandhi's muslim appeasement and one-sided policies became the root cause of Hindu-Muslim hatred...

How do you say more blood shed will create more patriotism?? In fact it is the other way about..more forgiving nature will induce less hatred..Gandhi simply followed pure hindu vedantic policy in a practical manner.
