Apart from religious benifits which we call it sunna ,,, There are scientific advantages in this.
BTW circumcision not only does by muslims alone even jews and chris also do in west i dont know about india,,,,,,,,
The hygienic value of circumcision has today been generally conceded, and some physicians recommend the operation as a routine measure for all male infants, it is part of the routine of bathing an uncircumcised boy, to draw back the foreskin and sponge the head of the penis. This is for general cleanliness and also to remove pasty white secretion called smegma, which accumulates under the foreskin and may lead to local irritation unless it is regularly cleansed. Whenever a new born is found to have a tight foreskin (phimosis), the physician usually recommends circumcision.

@Frelancer,

that is only in cases when the skin grows over and seals... whereby the bladder swells and an operation is necessitated...

it is not mandatory in all cases...

@frelancer,

"Five are the acts quite akin to fitrah:Circumcision, clipping or shaving the pubes, cutting the nails, plucking or shaving the hair under the armpits and clipping (or shaving) the moustache." (Reported in Bukhari & Muslim)

Allah ordered Prophet Muhammad to follow the religion of Ibrahim. When Allah says:

"Then We inspired you: 'Follow the religion of Ibrahim, the upright in Faith'."

(Qur'an 16:123)

i guess all muslims do have their foreskin/nails cut.... but regarding armpit hair and moustache... it is a moot area!!!!

you also infer facts to your convenience... wherever it seems illogical, you easily say that it is optional...?

Circumcision is a good idea. Better still Muslims should be castrated to reduce population.

Frelancer, it was a jewish practice and was in vogue even before the birth of Mohammed. he just continued the same. It was more for hygene in a region where water was a scarce commodity.

If there is any medical benefit, the WHO would have recommended the same for the whole world (like Polio doses and other immunization programmes).

You are right,it is a jewish custom,christians and muslims also follow it as all three are followers of prophet Abraham(peace upon him).
As for medical benefit,penile carcinoma and balanoposthitis are unknown in circumcised men.treatment for adult onset balanoposthitis and fourniers gangrene is circumcision and incidently circumcision is approved by WHO as a method of preventing HIV transmission and STD in central africa,

jGN, i am sure you can carry out a civil conversation without having to resort to profanity.
Anyway abraham came before moses,and Moses was the liberator of jews and not as you suggest.
And should you be criticising major religions of the world.
Look how much jewish people have contributed,all vaccines made by us.
Polio,small pox vaccines,not only made but the formula distributed so poor countries would benefit.
Antibiotics again,internet,mobile phones,so how can you call anyone intolerant.similarly christians and moslems have contributed more positively than negatively.
When you post something,it reflects your personality.

I am not against people of any community. I believe in the basic goodness of all humanbeings and the principles of neo-humanism.

The inventions, etc have nothing to do with religion. They are the results of individual (some times even groups) efforts.

I don't have to believe in the fairy tales of religins for respecting great individuals (btw even Karl Marx was a Jew). And I criticize not major religions but minor ones also as I am an irreligious atheist.

>>>>>>>>>>>prophet Abraham............who is this fellow? The business of Prophet was started by Moses (Musa Nabi). He was a murderer from Egypt hiding in the hills of Sinai. he befooled the Jews like a halucinating Mohammed befooled the arabs of 7th century Arabia! The origin of the semitic religions itself is tainted. No wonder their followers are an intolerant lot the world over!

Muslims consider Muhammed as the final messenger.Quarn says prophets were sent to all races and all languages.
If you think Muhammed copied it from jews, then there are so many absurdities in bible (not the original revelation) that too should have been copied ..correct?But it is not.
It simpy means revelation came from a single source.By the way circumcision is not mandatory!!!

balaord, why are you trying to fool yourself? The Quran also contains a lot of abusrdities, contradictions, hatred, etc. Pl search for the Skeptics Annotated Bible. It has category-wise verses like "absurdities, contradictions, hatred, good stuff, etc" from The Bible (both old testament and new testament), The Quran and The Book of Mormon. Try your trick with some one who has not read your Quran.

My answere will be based on fact which you are ready to admit,,,,,,,,
Even this time also be the same that,,,,,
Prophet Muhammad PBUH indicated that each child is born "Muslim" so when a person accepts Islam, he or she actually reverts to the true natural innate faith.

Frelancer, you are just picking up some portion and halucinating. The population of arabia were Jews till Mohammed was about 40 years old (now don't tell me that right from Adam and Eve every one was Muslim, etc)
