-- Read below post first..then this one....---

The technique of algebraic computation was known and was developed in India in earlier times. From the 13th century onwards, India was subject to invasions from the Arabs and other Islamised communities like the Turks and Afghans.

Along with these invader: came chroniclers and critics like Al-beruni who studied Indian society and polity.

The Indian system of mathematics could no have escaped their attention. It was also the age of the Islamic Renaissance and the Arabs generally improved upon the arts and sciences that they imbibed from the land they overran during their great Jehad.

The system of mathematics they observed in India was adapted by them and given the name 'Al-Jabr' meaning 'the reunion of broken parts'. 'Al' means 'The' & 'Jabr' mean 'reunion'.

This name given by the Arabs indicates that they took it from an external source and amalgamated it with their concepts about mathematics.

Do you kpow Mayans had a equivalent number system with zero?
Do you know assiriyans had a number system?
Do you know romans had number system?
Do you know Egyptians had number system?

While I admit the ingenuity of Indian number system-it would have never reached the standard it is today if it is not for arabs!!!

Dear Balaord

Please dont make castles in the air come to ground reality. Answer me

1) As far as u no. is concerned why u people are Backward in modernisation, science and technology.
2) Why u dont stand anywhere in terms of militarily and economic power.
3) Why u r not strong in any of the sector whether manufacturing or Services(IT)
4) What is ur contribution to present world.
5) why u have maximum no of terrorists in the world.
6) why contriwes like Afghanisatan,Bangladesh, pakistan and iraq has gone into stone age.
So dear rather than talking see the present conditions and do some introspection . Come out of ur shell ,use logics and there is the only way for salvation.

improved upon?what stopped you guys from taking it to europe and introducing it in sanskrit itself?
The truth is Greeks dont have indian number system and Indian mathematical system makes only heavy use number theory and no empahsis on geomterical interpretaion. But modern mathematics is based on indian number system and heavy empahsis on geometricl interpreation of concepts?
Brining in these two into single system is what made the biggest leap in modern mathematics!!

come on?where is your source??
It means nothing of some one just thought about it before 10,000 years.did it impact the world?did it contribute directly to the development of modern mathematics..
I do agree many great minds like Aryabhatta, baskara and books like siddhanta were written in India.
But you guys make a exaggerated claim!!!

Can you answer this question first?
Arabic was the language of science for 1000 years and thats why books from other languages and other countries got translated to arabic.
When there is a center of intellectual activity,it is only natural that this happens!!!

why on earth Indian number system has to go through Arabs?
why on earth all the so called Greek knowldge has to be translated to arabic and then to Latin?
Is Arabia very near to London that Greece?

Why no books were directly translated from sanskrit to chinnese..or sanskrit to greek?
It is simple-Arabic was the language of science and thats why it took that route..
