Why DID DMK ALIGN WITH BJP FOR FIVE FULL YEARS? WHY THEY KEPT SILENT DURING GUJARAT?

I guess even now if DMK is sure that BJP will return to power it will align with it. But DMK knows BJP is nowhere in picture so they just whip up passions for the sake of elections on some issue. BJP is doing the same thing.
