Historians believe that Ram actually lived and the Ramayan episode indeed occur.But,it was basically a fight between Aryans and the dravidians. Evidences indicate that the war took place somewhere around the Dandakaranya forests in Orissa. Even now, some tribals there worship Ravan as their God and their language is dravidian.

Bottom Line is, People can decide whether they like Ram or not .. No one can force Ram on US..
