Today india boasts of 10% GDP growth and we say that ours is the most booming economy in the world.we are the most talked about country in the world (At least thats what we think). But the ground reality is that we do not get 24 hrs electricity supply even in NEW DELHI leave aside other smaller towns and villages . we do not get clean drinking water .we dont have access to basic neccesities of life. Our prime need today is ENERGY which has to be fulfilled. Our population is already putting a heavy strain on our natural resources (coal and water) 2 primary sources of energy in our country. Solar energy is the only other option left to us but unfortunately the conversion percentage of that is too low. now we just have nuclear energy that can help our cause .I agree that today we do not produce much electricity by using nuclear energy but that time is not far off when we will have to do that.So its better to prepare for it now rather than be involved in simple anti US policies which are baseless .Its time when common ppl in india should rise and have a say in the matter as ther are the ones worst affected. our political leaders care two hoots for the country its a decision that india has to take so lets our voice be heard .

akash, forget about the 24 hours power, these people will not rest till they take back us to the position where we need to spend most of our forex on rice/wheat imports due to power shortge for agriculture.

Well there are many alternative technologies which our country can use instead of nuclear especially the cost.
We can harness wind power if we have the will to do it.. Our country is so huge and filled to environmentally friendly energy but we dont want to invest in that but give our money to america and western country to feed their population.
we want to buy 42000 crores worth of planes from usa but not use a fraction of that is health care , power generation etc.
We can invest in building lot of dams use rives for electricity generation but no.
rajasthan can be powered by solar giant screens and also delhi and adjoining states.
We have a huge country with full of resourses but no
We want to give it to west
HA HA HA

Tan, your point is well taken. if iam right, the nuke power will account only 7 to 10 percent of our future need to sustain the GDP growth. any ways, we need to explore the other means to achive the rest of the percentage of the power. why dont you see this step (123 aggrement) in that direction? - Madhu
