Good thought, But there are engineering issues...and National Security issues...
Engineering issues: - Take a look at the scale of the map. To use a searoute for both military and shipping purposes, you need 4-5 mile long canal, also taking into consideration the tides. The area you are referening to is far less than that.
Military Issue - Dhanushkodi is indian territory. Having a canal to the North west of it will mean that the canal will go through indian waters/territory. That is a national security risk. You do not want ships carrying containers from other countries (Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc) to have a free flow through Indian Territory or Indian waters.

If Govt...was to get rid of some mosque..for the interest of this nation..am 100% sure u woudn't be saying this here...forget abt destroying..if Govt would have mentioned in the court tht...There is no proof for existance of allah then there would have been a big riot in the country now!! This is the diff between u guys n us...so dont try to act patriotic just to offend Hindus....

Dear Sir, we did not know that you were part of technical design team for Govt of India. If not they should include you in the team. I thought the govt had 5 different option to dig most of them without disturbing the Adam's bridge(You may get alergy if i mention Ram there) but chose the one to destroy the bridge at the behest of Karunanidhi which suited madam well.

If they say there is mllions of barrels of oil under kaaba. That will solve the gas needs of the earth for the next 1000 years would you allow digging up that place. Think about it.

No Muslim will allow the Ground under the Kaaba to be dug up. In the Same VEIN no Hindu would like the " Ram Setu" to be violated.
On a diversionary note: The need of the hour in INDIA is to stop thinking of burning either oil ie. Fossil Fuels or Coal or Wood to generate energy.
WE DO NOT WANT TO END UP LIKE CHINA !
Let us INDIANS dispense with these methods and go in for ELECTRIC CARSS (90% of vehicles) FUEL CELLS, MAGNETIC LEVITATION and BIO-DIESEL (10% of Vehicles) and NUCLEAR ENERGY and harness the power of Lightning using Giant Capacitors.
