Sensible? Were muslims sensible when a fatwa was issued (and it still holds) against Salman Rushdie for writing a stupid book? When all the furore was caused over some cartoons made by some Norwegian cartoonist? I don't know if Lord Ram ever existed or not, but a wide majority of Hindus do believe in him, and that should be a reason enough not to proceed on this project. If the 'securlaist' government of India can ban a harmless movie like 'The Da Vinci Code' (The AP goevrnment did), can't it put this project on hold for the beliefs of 80% of its inhabitants?

It seems you are literate but uneducated and hence guided by emotions rather than logic.Logically Ramayana and Mahabharat are great work by saints based on fictions of that time...but today..people will laugh if you stop the Govt's project on basis of those fiction saying that there was a monkey kingdom who build a bridge over sea???

You cannot dismiss faith as fiction. Just imagine a govt. organization claiming that there is no historical evidence of existence of Prophet Mohammad !
India is really a true secular unlike Pakistan or any of the muslim states of the world. But this kind of act will certainly tend the hindu masses to move towards these organizations.

FYI, cutting short the sea route does not cut short any money. The ships using the short cut has to be towed which would cost them more. The time saved would be hardly 2 hours. Considering the fact that all ships anyway harbour days in any port of India, 2 hours is negligible.
Also remember digging that part of sea would jeopardise many organism in that part.
