I think you should read couple more articles on the long term impact of Hyde act before commenting on this topic.
I's earlier blindly against the left's opposition to the N-deal, however I went thru' what few scientists had to say abt the long term impact of the deal.
---Ultimately USA is promising Reactors and not fuel, thats the crux of the matter.
--- After CONGRESS invests HUGE portion of TAX PAYER's MONEY into building the reactors, if we dont get the fuel, we'll be soon closing down the reactors.
---Also if we go against US's interests , US would have the right to TURN-OFF the reactors by blocking the FUEL. ---Instead India could invest the same money in building INDEGENOUS REACTORS, WE DONT NEED US for that !!! .... Think Abt IT !!

Pritish, you forgot one more humiliating factor of this deal: The President of the US has to certify the "good behaviour" of India every year to the Congress. Is this the way you to treat an ally?
I hate commies, but I don't want to support a bad deal just to oppose them.
I've been posting my opposition to Commies on their opposition for quite sometime, but with new details/facts coming out from the deal, TO MY KNOWLEDGE - we are gonna lose out on our basic rights/say - ETERNALLY.

why we worry about that. That is their rules and laws. That is the their internal matter.We have to have some back bone. Not like this. We did nt hear this much cry and slogn chanting when we singed a "frendship" treaty with the then "evil " empire Soviet Union? It clearly shows our bias. India in the 60s,70s and 80s allied with the Soviets.90s when the Evil Empire colapsed things changed in Indias economic policys.India never had such economic growth back then. Right or wrong? Communist have any good answer for that? Why soviet union colapsed? What happend to the Red flag which was flying in Red square? Where is Lenningrad and stalingrad? what they call it now? Why?

Also you heard nothing about talks with Australia... Or about Indian company accuring minig rights in Africa... Or about India getting fuel from Russia from the past ....
Critcism should not be just about crticizing...thats ahat we are telling the left...
Yes we need Indegineous recators ...but the same thing what you stated will happen..
REACTORS BUT NO FUEL...And that can eat away the sahre of military fuel tooo...
For thorium reactors to get commercialized will take a 20-40 more years....Remember none in the world have technology for it...All are in the experimental stage..
Ya the scientist...read their columns too.....

Russia trustworthy?? They used us in the UN.And exploited to us to by arms from them. And we were alinged with Russia. There goes Indias non alnged policy. No Communists cried at that time.They are the reason India was pushed back in many fields. Since the Sovet colapsed India opened up its market, and changed its economic policy.So plz dont say Russia gave some thing free here. or trust worthy? They used us for their advantage.

Left is a just a damn barking dogs just like some Communist countries around the world.They can count them in fingers. Look how weak they are.China call them selfs now "People's Republic of China " No more RED CHINA. Do we want our great nation look like cuba, vietnam and north korea?
I understand/know their past, however I've my own statistics on this deal, I did not gather all these statistics from what the left discussed with the media, rather what several scientists said abt it.

Mr. King,
For your kind info, West Bengsl is not really a very poor state. You can check the statistics. It is no way as poor as Bihar, Rajasthan, MP etc. In fact, only 4 out of the poorest 100 districts are in WB whereas Maharashtra has a lot of them (Most of the villagers anyway commit suicide in Vidarbha).
As far as the US is concerned, you can have a fairly reasonable idea of how they would behave from how they behaved in the past - look at Tarapur after 1974.
Please do not confuse commie bashing and debating the nuclear deal as the same issue. The deal probably would subjugate us to US for eternity, whether the commies oppose it or not. Just read the revelation by Nicholas Burns, US under secretary of state during his interview to the Council on Foreign Relations: 'It had been an easy "strategic" choice for Washington when faced with the question -- should we isolate India for the next 35 years or bring it in partially now (under safeguards inspection) and nearly totally in the future.'
