I really enjoyed the article. have lived and grown up in the North East, with travels all across, have experienced different feelings : Fear, Warmth, Alienated, Sentimental, Dead Sic, all that but the states are a unique lot. Yes. the tragedy is going beyond proportion, Bangladesh shall annex the state thru their protege / infiltrators that abound and are granted socila status thru the states.
A case in point : Look at the immense corruption prevalent in Nagaland, all the residents of the state who come to the metros Mumbai, Dli, Kolkata, B'lore are the ones most visble on the High Street, where is the source? Corruption / Siphoning off funds is an accepted practice all across the Region.
Shillong - once a cauldron of Communal and Tribal, Anti Tribal conflicts, the typical Outsider - Local version, is today single mindedly supporting a Bengali Contestant "Amit Roy' to be their choice for the Indian Idol. This has happened primarily because today a large number of residents have family living and working outside the state and realise that it causes no worry to show appreciation for others. Economic development- in tandem with Ecologically sustainable models, shall help carry the mass towards a Greater India - today we are an India Minus the ILP states, yes we do need a visa indeed, tragic but true. The region is blessed and harbours rich Cultural Values, Natural resources, Human Capital, yet all seems an exaggeration, as the article by Tarun Vijay clearly reflects.
