Anything coming from the West (birthday cake, hand shake, ribbon cutting etc.) considered secular but anything coming from Indian culture (Bharat mata, namaste, surya namskar etc) are considered as communal. This is just slavery and disrespect to our traditions.
A person can change any faith or religion but can not change his/her culture, traditions, customs and ancestors.

Sunil,
Look like you sleep with your eyes OPEN.
What Culture and Tradition are you talking about.
I came to India last year...Look at our tradition and culture in today's youth...I was ashamed...Look at the dress or the lack of it in these girls today...In my days there were one or two girls wearing jeans in college...Now they are wearing shorts...
And How can you say that a person cannot change his Culture, traditions...
I also see old parents come to the US. The Mother gets rid of her saari/kurta and starts wearing pants...
Look at our films...they more pathetic than western films...Check out the ITEM/MASALA songs...Do you still believe that culture/traditions are not Changing...
Some changes are for Good (Eradication of Cast system, Sati)...some are bad...(Our dress code, family structures, Values etc)

Mr Imran, stop being an orthodox goat and start accepting things. A women clad in a saree can represent Indian culture as much as a women dancing in an Item song. Culture is not a scripted manual of dos and donts, it is merely a perspective. 90%b of Indians struggle abroad just because they come here with a rudimentary mindset. They are not flexible enough to adapt to the foreign culture. Open your mind, start learning about other cultures to appreciate them and please let go of this 60s Indian mindset.

I strongly oppose ur narrow minded views abt girls. u have no right to ask a girl wot to wear. its better to wear a skirt than to wear a burqa and stay in oblivion forever. the burqa is the biggest symbol of women suppresion in islam. get rid of it and liberate muslim women

I am not proposing that woman wear the BURKHA. Our friend Sunil suggested that Culture and Traditions do not change...I think that is a FALSE statement.

Sunil, our culture no doubt is our pride and identity but even more than that it is an excuse to hide our fears. It is an excuse to curb our freedom. Traditions/culture or customs are the teachings that you get from your ancestors and pass on to your next gens. There is nothing right or wrong here, it's just a perspective. To expect everyone to have a perspective as good or as bad as yours is not correct. just my $.02

What do you mean by accomodate ? Is that a favor you are doing ? We live in India because it is our country...Not because of someone ACCOMODATION.
And stop this minority card BS. If our culture was so superior than other cultures, then why are we still a "DEVELOPING" nation for the last 60 years ?

the yoyo never stops. Good going guys instead of blaming each other try eating your own rotten dog food first. I don't know how to define culture and I don't know what cultures you follow but I certainly know that settling scores by blaming each other for everything wrong isn't a part of my culture.
The disturbing fact is that Gandhi was as corrupt as Ghazni then and BJP is as corrupt as Congress or commies now and our so called narrow mindedness doesn't even let us vote these people out of power.

I am...that is precisly the reason why I do not follow culture/tradition blindly...I do not want to pass on bad things to my children..just because i am doing it and because my ancestors were doing it..

We need to follow what is appropriate...That may OR may not be our culture/Tradition. Our ansestors were NOT perfect. They may have had made mistakes. Today we see them as crime, in their time, it was the CULTURE (Again Caste system for a Brahmin in the 1900s was the CULTURE, the TRADITION...)
We need to follow GOOD traditions and reject the ones that are inappropiate.
