Now the US is interferring
by Abhishek Banerjee on Oct 30, 2007 06:51 AM   Permalink

Actually, the people who oppose the N-deal on grouds that it will lead to US intereferring in India are playing a counterproductive hand. If Dr. Singh had overcome his cowardice and spoken to the main opposition party on such a critical national interest issue, the US would not have been talking to Indian leaders directly. The Washington lobbyists have now set up shop in New Delhi, thanks to the Congress lack of resolve. They could have easily gotten the BJP to take their side on the N-deal, but they didn't. I fully applaud the concern with which the US is trying to do for us what we could not do for ourselves. This deal is good for us, its good for them and yet we cant take it because
1) Our PM is a career clerk who has no idea what political courage means
2) The Congress is consorting with the Left, which is a rabid pro China anti-India formation.
3) Our de facto ruler is a semi-literate woman who lacks the competence to understand words like "strategic alliance", "political consensus", etc.
