India has opened her markets to US capital. From $ 11 million4 in 1991, US FDI in India has soared to $ 5 billion5 in 2005-06, a 450 times increase in 15 years. US capital wants its government to reward India, of course, in a manner which will increase her dependence on the US. A list of US companies which were lined up by the US India Business Council to lobby the US Congress to approve of the "123 agreement" includes General Electric, Ford Motors, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Aerospace Industries Association.The deal wraps India more tightly in the embrace of US finance-capital and its strategic-military geopolitics.
The supporters of the deal are foretelling doom for the country if the deal falls through, because, we are told, as fossil fuels run out, nuclear energy becomes the alternative, and the nuclear programme requires import of fuel (uranium), the US being ready to export just what is needed.

What good reason Iran with 60 million peole need Nuclear power plant when they have 4% of world oil? Feel sorry for the Indian govt. Handful of Communist thugs decide India's foreign policy. You are very wrong. These thugs like everything American. Just that they pretend to dislike them to fool their followers. Many of these leader's kids are in the US, they have everything American in their homes, have enough dollars in cash with them, and have more than 2 or 3 business that they run under someone else name. They are actually real capitalists, but just pretending to be socialists. So dont kid yourself and feel that are living in the cold war era. They are very cunning people who talk one thing and do another.
The main reason they are against this deal is that they would have tried to get some money from the Govt, but looks like they were too greedy and would have probably asked for a lot, which the Govt would have thought useless.
Just wait for the next election, where the communists will be wiped out and the deal willgo through.
