Fast Breeder Technology still far away
by Vijayan on Oct 24, 2007 10:57 AM   Permalink | Hide replies

India has to go a long way to build a commercial Fast Breeder nuke plant. As Shri.Kalam said, it will take at least 5-10 yrs to develop a stable technology. Fast breeder reactors use uranium and the plutonium derived frm it to convert Thorium to the fissile uranium. So we need uranium anyway and our reserves are getting depleted fast. So uranium import is the most important thing in the Nuke deal that we are looking at. Once the deal is done, then we get into the good guys club so that uranium rich countries like Australia and Canada can export it to us.
