Unfair to naveen patnaik
by vaibhav sharma on Oct 22, 2007 04:30 PM   Permalink

i think that author is being unfair to the naveen patnaik government. The biggest problem Orissa is facing is that of poverty, illiteracy . Naxalism and health problems are overshoots of poverty. The only way to fight naxalism is economic development n which s d better way than opening up of steel plants which vl not only utilise minerals of states but vl also give direct and indirect employment to millions over der.
Credit must be given to Orissa govt which could convince so many Cos. to invest in it but of late they ve lost d track.
kalinganagar , n posco are the instances of it.But if d govt. deals wid dem strictly den other people make an issue out of it. Tribals are led into doing this by petty politicians whi think they will lose out coz of these development.
But yes, how you procure land and resettle the displaced poeple is an aspect which I think not only Orissa Govt. shd luk into but most of d govts in India vl ve to think abt it.
Compare it wid China. people der r not allowed to protest if their homes are getting submerged, or de r getting displaced coz of ne other projects , but still de r in a better state wen u compare it to d people of democratic india coz govt, der is giving proper resttlement options.
Look at d irony. people der cant even dispute d compensation de r getting .
