"When they came, we had our land and they had bible in their hands, now we have bible in our hands and they have our land"

This was said by some famous personality.

Can anyone tell me who said this and what exactly the quote was?

"When the Missionaries arrived, the Africans had the Land and the Missionaries had the Bible. They taught how to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, they had the land and we had the Bible."

Jomo Kenyatta, the first President of Kenya

(According to Walker, John Frederick. A Certain Curve of Horn: The Hundred-Year Quest for the Giant Sable Antelope of Angola, 2004. Page 144.)

Jomo Kenyatta is also famouse for saying the following:

1) "Don't be fooled into turning to Communism looking for food."

2) "The European condemns the Africans for having two wives yet he keeps two mistresses."
